The Rigpa Treasury of Wisdom project aims to preserve and make available a unique collection of teachings given by some of the most outstanding masters of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

Since the 1970s, Rigpa and Sogyal Rinpoche have played a leading role in inviting some of the most eminent masters of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition to give teachings in the West, including His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the heads of the four schools of Tibetan Buddhism, and many of the most outstanding masters and lineage holders of our time.

These teachers were amongst the first generation of great masters to introduce Tibetan Buddhism to the modern world, and the teachings they gave form a historic and priceless treasure.

The Treasury of Wisdom project is compiling, cataloguing, researching, archiving and making available this great wealth of teachings, for the benefit of as many people as possible.

Much of the urgency of the project is to save many thousands of hours of valuable and unique audio and video recordings from ageing and disintegration. More than two thirds of the archive has been successfully digitised. A further ten years of tapes still remain to be preserved in this way. Simultaneously, the Treasury of Wisdom is also creating and filing the transcriptions of the materials digitised.

The archive also houses a remarkable collection of over 12,000 photographs and printed documents. They include historic photographs of the great Buddhist masters who first gave teachings in the West, as well as rare photographs taken in Tibet and India. These images are being transferred by dedicated archivists to digital formats.

The Treasury of Wisdom also provides preservation services to other masters, groups and organisations. Materials from the archive are available to masters and scholars, and are regularly used as reference and source materials. The Treasury of Wisdom is making available selected teachings from the archive as part of Rigpa's on-going cycle of courses; on CD and DVD through the regular Rigpalinks programme; and where possible over the internet.
