What Buddhism Has to Offer the Modern World

In August this year, at Sogyal Rinpoche’s invitation, professor Samdhong Rinpoche gave a public talk at Lerab Ling, Rigpa’s main retreat centre in the South of France. More than 500 people, including representatives from different religious traditions and local government officials, were present in Lerab Ling to listen to the talk.

The inspiring and thought-provoking talk by Professor Samdhong Rinpoche was also watched by about 1,000 people live via the internet, in countries such as Australia,Israel, the Czech Republic & Brazil. People were struck by the earnest and rich speech, and afterwards said felt they better understood their responsibility as citizen of an interdependent world.

Some comments left on Facebook after the talk were:

“What a simple but powerfully natural talk on humanity and its consequences.”

“I love his authenticity, thank you for sharing.”

“Thank you very much Rinpoche and to all involved in the endeavour. I feel strangely quite optimistic after that! I can conceive of a world with buddhist inspired banks, supermarkets, political parties, protected forests and animal sanctuary’s. It will inform how I go about my own job starting 9am in the morning. Thank you.”

The complete talk is now available to watch again. (the talk itself begins at 4:30)

The Rigpa Live Video Streaming website also has public talks by Mingyur Rinpoche, Dilgo Khyentse Yangsi Rinpoche, and Khandro Rinpoche available to watch again.
